Q0001

What is the purpose of reporting a confidence interval in addition to a p-value?

Response

Based on a p-value, we cannot tell the size of an effect. For example, when testing about the difference between two groups, a significant p-value does not mean the between-group difference is large, whereas an insignificant p-value does not mean the between-group difference is small. A confidence interval may inform the size of an effect and the precision.
