Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q0001

What is the purpose of reporting a confidence interval in addition to a p-value?

Q0002

Someone told me to use a non-parametric test for non-parametric data. Is that right?

Q0003

For a 2 tailed test, the alpha is divided by 2. As we look back to the statistical table, we take 0.05, right? Alternatively, can we take 0.025 instead but do not divide the alpha by 2? Will that be the same?

Q0004

What is the use of a 2-tailed test? If T > critical value in a 2-tailed test, what is the next step we should do? I don't really see much use of the negative tail side.

Q0005

How should I set up the null and the alternative hypotheses?

Q0006

Probability, Binomial distribution, etc. Why do we need to learn all these? Will they be used in practice?

Q0007

I am so frustrated with statistics. What should I do?

Q0008

Why don't we just learn the equations? Calculations make more sense to me more than going through the scenarios.

Q0009

May Spearman's rank correlation coefficient be used for categorical data?

Q0010

Is my R2 large?

Q0011

I don't know what the questions are asking!

Q0012

Are nominal and ordinal measurements also discrete data? And interval and ratio measurement also continuous data?
