Q0008

Why don't we just learn the equations? Calculations make more sense to me more than going through the scenarios.

Response

Knowing the calculation of different statistical procedures is important for a better understanding of how the procedures are conducted. Therefore, it is especially important for those who like to develop new statistical methods or improve existing methodologies. However, medical and nursing disciplines are more concerned with the proper use of statistical methods and the ability to interpret and critically appraise statistical findings. While the conduct of many statistical methods may be assisted using computer software, the ability to plan statistical methods and to interpret statistical results are essentially important.

People who find difficulties in the scenarios are often due to the lack of sufficient understanding of the underlying statistical concepts. You are encouraged to look for resources or discuss with your peers and teachers for difficulty in mastering the statistical concepts.
